The Short Answer
There is no SurfaBeam mod APK that we publish, endorse or can support, and there is no APK file on surfabeam.com — never has been. Android installs come from Google Play; iPhone, iPad and Mac from the App Store; Windows from a direct installer, the Microsoft Store or Steam. That is the whole distribution list.
The more useful half of the answer is this: the free version of SurfaBeam is permanently free — no countdown, no evaluation period that turns into a paywall. It includes the entire mapping, media, masking, calibration, tracking, visualizer and Timeline toolset. Two things separate it from Pro — a watermark on your output and a gate before you enter the editor — and Pro adds Save, Load and Export on top of removing them. Everything else is already yours. So the practical question is not where to find a mod; it is whether you actually need those three, and if you do, what the cheapest honest route to them is.
What the Free Version Includes, in Full
This list is longer than most people expect, which is exactly why the mod searches happen — no store listing or search snippet conveys how much is unlocked from first launch.
Mapping, warping and masking
Add Surface drops a rectangle with four corner dots into the live preview, and you drag each dot onto a real corner of the object in front of you. That is the core loop, and it is free. Node snapping pulls a dragged corner magnetically onto a neighbouring surface's corner so two panels meet without a visible seam; surfaces stack in a layer list, and Undo restores a deleted one intact.
When the object curves, the WARP toggle turns each of the surface's four straight edges into a Bezier curve. Double-tap a corner and two orange tangent handles appear; drag one and the adjacent edge bows until it hugs a pillar, an arch or a car bonnet. Toggling WARP on changes nothing by itself — the shape only moves once you pull a handle, which catches everyone out the first time. It is free, and it is what separates real mapping from a keystone slider.
Masking is free too. Anything outside a surface projects black, so drawing surfaces is masking for most jobs. Pick Custom Mask takes an image and uses its light and dark areas to cut the surface into that shape live, with a Threshold slider and an Invert toggle. PNG Overlay lays a transparent PNG over a playing video without replacing it, and Extended Mask Video — set on the parent surface first, then Child Video Mask on the others — runs one continuous clip across several separate mapped objects.
Media, tracking and effects
Turn on Video Select Mode, tap the surfaces you want, and Apply Image or Apply Video fills them, with Fit, rotate, zoom, pan and per-axis stretch to seat the content in an irregular shape. Auto-Calibrate is free as well — one tap projects a marker, switches to the rear camera and works out where the projected image actually lands, so interactive effects line up with it. So is live tracking of hands, full body or the real outline of an object, and so are the physics toys: bouncing balls, a drivable car that treats your surfaces as ground, birds that perch on what you mapped. Our 2026 comparison of mapping apps puts that toolset next to what the paid desktop suites offer.
Visualizer and Timeline
The music visualizer loads its own audio file and generates one of twelve procedural modes from it — Fluid Water, Hyperspace Warp, Fire Tornado, Galaxy, Particle Swarm and the rest. Worth being precise, since it is often misread: it builds visuals from the track you load, and does not make an imported MP4 react to sound. A separate hand-reactive set runs off the camera instead.
The Timeline is a non-linear editor inside the mapping editor: one track per surface, clips you trim, split, duplicate and reverse, speed from 0.25× to 20×, text clips, and snapping to edges and the playhead. Building and playing a Timeline is free. Rendering it out to a file is not. And one thing people assume is locked: Capture still image saves a photo of the projection straight to Photos, Gallery or disk, with no crown on it.
The Two Limits, Stated Plainly
We would rather you read these here than discover them mid-setup.
- A watermark, on both the projected image and exported video. Not only on files you save — on the light hitting the wall. If you are being paid to light a shop window it will be in the photographs, and that is the honest reason a working job needs Pro.
- An entry gate before the editor. On free, something meets you on the way in: subscribe, or on Android take the rewarded-ad route — one ad buys a ten-minute countdown, four ads unlock the rest of the session. On macOS, Apple does not permit watch-an-ad-for-time, so the panel there is subscription-focused instead.
That is the complete list of what free costs you. Nothing quietly stops working after a week, and there is no resolution penalty either — the output matches whatever your projector reports, automatically, on free and Pro alike. There is no resolution setting to find, because there is nothing to set.
What Pro Actually Unlocks
Three things, plus removing the two limits above.
- Save and Load. Save Recent writes the whole scene — surfaces, media, masks, warp shapes and the Timeline — to an internal slot, and Load Recent brings it back. Without Pro, a session ends when the app does.
- Portable project files. Save to Files writes a plain
Scene_<date>.jsonthrough the native save dialog or share sheet, and Load from Files reopens it — including on a different device. There is no cloud sync, so moving a project is a deliberate act rather than something that happens in the background, and the file stores links to your media rather than the media itself: carry the videos across too, then re-check the alignment, because a map calibrated for one projector position is not valid from another. - Video export. The free version can Record the live projection, or run the slower frame-accurate pass over it; saving the result out is where Pro comes in, as a
SurfaBeam_<date>.mp4written to Photos, Gallery or a save dialog. Exporting a Timeline is Pro as well, and its render dialog is where you pick 720p, 1080p or 4K at 30 or 60 fps.
Pro is sold as Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly and a one-time Lifetime purchase through the App Store and Google Play; on Steam it is a one-time DLC rather than a subscription. The Lifetime option matters more than it looks — if a recurring charge is awkward where you live, paying once is the shape most people in that position want. Current prices sit on the store listings and on our download page.
Install the real build — free, no time limit
Same mapping engine on Android, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows. Everything described above is unlocked from first launch; you only pay when you need to save, load or export.
Why a Modded Build Is a Bad Trade — for You
A dollar-priced subscription is a genuinely different amount of money in Jakarta than it is in Berlin, and looking for a cheaper route is a reasonable thing to do rather than a moral failing. So this section is about the trade itself, not about anyone's behaviour.
- Updates stop the moment you sideload. A build installed outside the store gets no store updates: every fix, every new mode, every compatibility patch goes to everyone except you.
- Android moves, and mapping apps sit in the path. SurfaBeam touches the parts of the OS that change most — camera permissions, external display and HDMI output, media codecs, GPU inference. A version frozen on the day it was repackaged tends to break at the next major OS release, in the ways that ruin a setup: the projector output stops being detected, or the camera feed comes up black.
- The heavy features are device-negotiated. On mobile the tracking models download on first use, and a one-time benchmark measures your device to decide which modes it can run at a usable frame rate. That machinery is among the first things to fail in a repackaged build, and the failure looks like a permanently greyed-out feature you cannot fix.
- The signature is not ours, so nobody can tell you what changed. A repackaged APK was opened and rebuilt by someone you cannot identify, and whatever else was altered is invisible from the outside. It is your phone — with your photos, camera and storage permissions — that runs it. Restore Purchases has nothing to talk to either, and we cannot debug a build we did not ship.
- It fails at exactly the thing you wanted it for. The reason anyone looks for a mod is Save and Export — keeping work and getting a file out. A build that stops opening after an OS update is the least reliable way there is to hold onto a project, which trades a watermark for the risk of losing the map the week before the event.
If Pro Is Genuinely Out of Reach
Then use the free tier well. It does not expire, so there is no hurry and nothing to game.
- Take the rewarded-ad route on Android. One ad for ten minutes, four ads for the whole session — the intended free path, priced in attention rather than money.
- Learn without a projector. Everything previews on the device screen, so you can build surfaces, warp edges, apply media and run the Timeline before you borrow hardware. When the projector does arrive, you spend the loan aiming rather than learning.
- Use Capture still image. It is free, and a photo of a finished map is enough to document a job, show a client, or rebuild the same layout later.
- Rebuild rather than reload. Without Save, the discipline is to keep maps simple enough to rebuild in ten minutes. Four surfaces mapped well beats fourteen you can never recreate.
- If you do buy, price Lifetime and Steam first. One-time payments exist on the App Store and Google Play, and on Windows the Steam Pro unlock is a one-time DLC. If the recurring charge is the real obstacle, those are the routes to look at.

"SurfaBeam APK" vs "SurfaBeam Pro APK": the Two Play Listings
A good share of these searches are not after a crack at all — they are after the right listing, because there are two on Google Play and the names are similar. The free app is com.secundumreality.surfabeam; the Pro app is com.secundumreality.surfabeampro. Both are published by Secundum Reality and both run the same mapping engine, so if you searched "SurfaBeam Pro APK" and simply wanted the paid listing, that second package name is what you were after.
Neither is distributed by us as a loose APK file. Play delivers the right build for your device and keeps it updated, which on an app that talks to cameras and external displays is doing more work than it appears to. Anything advertising a "SurfaBeam APK download" from a third-party site is a copy someone else made, and we cannot see what is in it. If you are choosing an Android device, the Android projection mapping guide covers the platform specifics.
Where SurfaBeam Actually Comes From
| Platform | Official route | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Google Play — free and Pro listings | Rewarded-ad entry option on the free tier; Pro as subscription or one-time Lifetime |
| iPhone & iPad | App Store | Restore Purchases re-applies a plan you already own |
| macOS | App Store | No watch-an-ad-for-time option; the panel is subscription-focused |
| Windows | Direct .exe installer, Microsoft Store, or Steam | On Steam, Pro is a one-time DLC rather than a subscription |
Every one of those is linked from the SurfaBeam download page, and the Windows routes are compared in the Windows projection mapping guide. If a link claims to be SurfaBeam and is not on that list, it did not come from us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a SurfaBeam mod APK?
No. There is no modified or unlocked build that we make, host or support, and we do not distribute an APK file from our own site. Android copies come from Google Play; anything else offered under the name is a third-party repackage, frozen at whatever version it was taken from.
Is SurfaBeam actually free, or does it expire?
Permanently free — no expiry date and no countdown after which the app stops. The free tier includes full mapping, warping, masking, media, calibration, tracking, the visualizers, the physics effects and the Timeline. It watermarks projected and exported output, shows an entry gate before the editor, and does not save, load or export project files.
Can I remove the watermark without paying?
No — removing it is what Pro is for, and it sits on the projected image as well as on exported video. Decide early whether a given job can live with it; for a rehearsal, a party, a house display or learning the tool, it usually can.
What is the difference between the SurfaBeam and SurfaBeam Pro listings?
They are the free and Pro listings of the same app on Google Play, under the package names com.secundumreality.surfabeam and com.secundumreality.surfabeampro. Same engine, same interface; the Pro route is the one without the watermark and entry gate, with Save, Load and Export unlocked.
Will my saved projects open on another device?
With Pro, yes, but you move them yourself. Save to Files writes a portable Scene_<date>.json that Load from Files reopens on another device. There is no cloud sync, so carry the file across however you like — and carry the media with it, since the file stores links to your videos and images rather than the files themselves. Then re-check the alignment: a map calibrated for one projector position will not be right from another.
Does SurfaBeam need an internet connection?
The mapping runs on the device. You need a connection for the unlock step on the free tier — a rewarded ad cannot be served offline — and the heavier tracking models download once on first use. After that a session does not depend on the network, which matters in venues where the Wi-Fi is a rumour. More answers live in the projection mapping FAQ, and every panel, button and gesture is documented in the SurfaBeam user guide.
